The people of Israel received a unique donation of love from the children of China on the heels of needed medical support. Donors sent air loads of medical supplies to Israel to help in the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) with many more flights planned.
But Zehava Hu, returning to her birthplace after spending time in Israel, reacted to the world pandemic by working with children and young people in a unique project to express their support and love for Israel. She explained the purpose of her work in China to The Jerusalem Herald.
What led you to make these heartwarming videos?
There are several reasons I made these videos. The rabbis and the Israelis prayed for and helped China during the pandemic, which the Chinese people really appreciated. Jews are a people who truly understand how the Chinese people are suffering from the rumors and the disaster.
The relationship between the Chinese and the Jews has always been strong even during this time. It is a time to share love with one another, like Rebbe Nachman of Breslov once said, “Let the good in me connect with the good in others until the entire world is transformed through the compelling power of love.”
The relationship between the Chinese and the Jews is so important during this pandemic because just as many people around the world are suffering from COVID-19, lashon hara (derogatory speech) is spreading together with the virus. So it is time to spread love and unity instead of hatred and destruction.
We understand that life can be difficult in China now. How are you getting by?
In China, there are some of us trying to spread the words of Torah and the seven Noahide laws. I don’t know how long we can go ahead but at least we are doing our part and Hashem is doing His. I hope this work and these videos will also inspire others to start sharing love with one another!
